Founded in 1919, the Institute of International Education (IIE) is the world’s most experienced higher education and professional exchange agency and administers over 250 international educational exchange and development training programs around the world. Over 20,000 men and women from over 175 countries come to the United States or go abroad for study, research, and training annually. The IIE site is partially supported by a grant from the Bureau of Education and Cultural Affairs at the US Department of State.
With over 850 member institutions in over 35 countries, the IIE site was developed to extend its service and commitment to increasing mutual understanding through international education and exchange. As the virtual international exchange hub, the IIE portal links a network of over 4,500 individuals committed to the internationalization of their institutions. In addition to informing on current developments in international education, the portal supports Americans studying aboard through its private membership base intranet and discussion boards. Furthermore, members are able to network with international education professionals and policy makers from around the world via the site.
