Harlem encompasses about five different neighbourhoods in New York. Launched on February 8, 2006, welcometoharlem.com is the first website of its kind to offer businesses, residents and visitors a virtual venue to interact and to stay current on community events.
Conceived by local businesswoman, Carolyn Johnson, welcometoharlem.com opens Harlem as one of New York's strongest cultural and commercial centers to the world.
With the mission to cater to the community overall, welcometoharlem.com is rich in its site offerings and provides an insider perspective on just about any aspect of life in Harlem, from shopping and dining recommendations to finding a job or new home. The site will also provide a voice to the community and serve as a discussion platform for such important issues as rezoning and its impact on long-time residents.
After reviewing several options, Johnson found that most out-of-the-box software packages still required her to hire individuals to design the web site. Starting with only hand drawings and ideas for her site, Johnson selected ReadyPortal as the only solution that was able to meet all the needs of her organization at a reasonable cost.
