The Fulbright Academy of Science & Technology (FAST) is a membership-based organization established by alumni of the Fulbright Exchange Program. FAST, which began as a volunteer-based initiative in 2003, is today a staffed organization with members and supporters worldwide.
Developed and managed by volunteers, the FAST first generation site was a simple homemade site with basic functionality. This site failed to keep up with the rapid growth the organization was experiencing and the need to present a highly professional image. With membership expected to double in 2006, FAST selected ReadyPortal to launch a new site that could effectively reflect the brand and support the goals of the organization. Key requirements of a new web system included:
- Redesign to create a professional looking site
- Online system to collect and manage membership data
- Easy-to-manage content management
- Interactive features to help garner community building
On November 2005, FAST launched its new site which is serving as an information bureau and meeting place for members worldwide. The Fulbright site will also offer a private intranet for members to network and share ideas. By integrating additional external applications, FAST manages membership database, conducts membership drives, publishes a newsletter and offers discussion boards via its site. The organization cites the ability to dynamically edit and update content as one of the biggest benefits of ReadyPortal.
