Client Profile

The Oncology Nursing Society (ONS) is a professional association of more than 35,000 members committed to promoting excellence in oncology nursing and the transformation of cancer care.  Since its official incorporation in 1975, ONS has become a leader in cancer care and has grown to include more than 225 local chapters and advocates for oncology nurses at the national level.

Challenge

Oncology Nursing Society has chapters around the country to connect members to other dedicated nurses in their local area who care about patient and public outreach.  Chapters provide a professional network to nurses as they advance their careers, and many chapters partner with healthcare organizations to offer continuing nursing education and dinner programs.  ONS required a solution that could provide both public-facing and members only content on a local level, a way to push centralized information down to chapter members while providing a place for chapters to communicate on local issues. Oncology Nursing Societ required a solution that could:

  • Provide controlled access to Chapters through a third-party authentication mechanism used in other parts of their organization
  • Provide a simple way to make centrally-managed national information available on each Chapter site
  • Make easy-to-use Chapter management and communications tools available to volunteer Chapter Administrators across the country

Solution

We provided ONS with an easy-to-use social intranet that allows them to easily create centrally-managed Chapters on the with inherited Look and Feel based on their branding.  This approach provides structure to support not only the network of over 225 unique Chapter sites but also a group of over 20 open-access Special-interest Groups (SIGs). with centrally-managed Single-Sign-on member management. Using Readyportal, ONS could define user access to specific Chapters by authenticating users against the main ONS member database. Moreover, Readyportal allowed for intra-Chapter communications through local-level social media tools.
